The role of the LPN is vital within the hospital service and people who have studied for an LPN degree online have many options to further their careers. Following graduation you will work as part of a team administering care to patients.
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work under the direct supervision of RNs and physicians but are capable of performing most patient care tasks. These tasks include taking patients’ vital signs, temperature, blood pressure, and patient bathing. The only RN-specific tasks that LPNs are not able to do are to administer IVs, push pharmaceuticals, and hang the first unit of blood. LPNs are called Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) in Texas and California.
The median salary for a qualified LPN is about $40,000.
Training usually involves a one year course at a vocational or technical school although an increasing number of nursing students are learning online. The great advantage of following an online LPN course is that you can continue to work and earn money whilst taking the course.
